You can read more about the events leading up to his demise from the CGI and his subsequent creation of both the GTA Evangelistic Association and Intercontinental Church of God by reading the paragraph "Post 1978 Ministry"...
Oddly enough, the people succeeding GTA didn't want to make any mention of the CGI in their announcement of GTA's death in 2003, since the webpage http://www.garnertedarmstrong.org/thisweek2.shtml reads:
Armstrong was founder of the Intercontinental Church of God and Garner Ted Armstrong Evangelistic Association, and son of Worldwide Church of God founder Herbert W. Armstrong, who died in 1986.
You will see in one of their online booklets "The Long Tradition of Prophetic Insight and Accuracy" [visible here: http://www.garnertedarmstrong.org/pubs/PropheticInsightandAccuracy.htm] that they are still playing the HWA-card. No mention is made of the many disagreements between father and son which are so well-documented by John Trechak in the Ambassador Reports, and an attempt is made to get tithes from people who believe they are still following in the footsteps of their great idol, GTA - a revamped edition of his father, HWA.
This organization is stuck in a time capsule with a decreasing number of donors as they die out.
So amazing that an anonymous person would declare me an idiot just because I try to inform people from a non-Armstrong perspective.
ReplyDeleteFact remains, GTA was an icon, and his death was noted in many Armstrongite groups because he influenced quite a few people.
He had numerous human flaws, and those were exposed while he was alive - and still his influence is great from the many booklets and reprint articles that are published in his name.
So the qualifications for ministry don't affect the way some people consider him...
I went to one of their feasts of tabernacles last year and I tried to talk to some leading ministers there about GTA. All they would say is that everyone makes mistakes and that they try to move on & not concentrate on any wrongdoings that might have occurred with GTA. Wow. Nothing like denial. The cogs are certainly cults...all of them. I've talked to CogWa, lcg, ucg as well & they are all pretty much the same....they want u'r money...they call it tithes but it amounts to up to 30% some years plus offerings and a host of other money grabbing stuff like bake sales, recycling drives, lots of ways to "be involved" in church missions. They don't want to show where the money goes. Members in many cases are convinced they shouldn't be concerned where the money goes...I talked with one member in lcg who works for dept of revenue in TN and he said he's looking for extra part time work cause he's having trouble paying his bills...been paying them on credit cards...but he still pays those tithes...it's disgusting! I regularly post arguments on UCG's blogs and website sermons. I've been "checked by a moderator" and my comments are sometimes deleted/not allowed on. They don't want you to give arguments for their viewers to see/hear at all. I will continue to expose their lies as much as I can though...wish me luck. thx

This episode is from former republican presidential candidate and United State Senator Bob Dole's personal time capsule archived collection of all GTA and HWA episodes in the US Library of Congress TV and Film archives. These preserved episode collection from Garner Ted Armstrong and Herbert W. Armstrong are the only programs of a religios nature ordered preserved into the United States National Archives.
