January 16th 2020 - The Magic Date for Gerald Flurry

Gerald Flurry, so-called Pastor General of the Philadelphia Church of God, has long ago decreed that January 16th is a special date. It was the day Herbie died in 1986, now 34 years ago - and he will insist that anything that happens today is historic...

33 Years Ago That Herbert W Armstrong Passed Away

Three years ago I wrote the article 3 Decades Ago That Herbert Armstrong Died. In May I wrote the article What Can We Say That Hasn't Already Been Said About Armstrongism? which sums up the obvious: we can't really say that much new about the doctrines within armstrongism. They are mostly set in concrete like a canon in the spinoffs that all strive to be as 'faithful' as possible to what they consider to be an end-time Elijah.

3 Decades Ago That Herbert Armstrong Died

Former Armstrong-believers will immediately recognize that three decades have passed since Herbert Armstrong died. 16th January 1986. Much discussion has been going on amongst former ministers. Some feeling apostasy set in around 1987, others that it happened in 1989 - and others moving into the 90s...

Chief among all of the splinter groups has been the scattering of ideas and thinking. Ironically, precisely what Herbie predicted about founders dying in the church pamphlet about 7 laws of success. :-)

I think all of us who have come out of Armstrongism can agree that it has been very good to come out of confusion. Friends still trapped in this ideology are missed, but we have all found new friends, and reached new levels of self-awareness that is in sharp contrast with the self-degrading (nearing masochist) mindset involved in Armstrongism.

Happy weekend everyone. :-)

Twenty Seven Years After the Death of Herbert W Armstrong

As many know Six-Pack Gerald Flurry declared the 16th of January was the most important date in history. Now, twenty seven years after the death of Herbie, he probably still believes this.

All others know it's a coincidence whether something happens on the 15th or on the 16th of any month, but Gerald Flurry was very specific:

You are going to see the date of HWA's death take on more significance as time goes on. (page 82, Malachi's Message 1990-edition)
As regular readers of this blog will know, Gerald Flurry has a unique ability to see things in coincidences. Things are easily upgraded into almost world-important proportions whenever Gerald feels something is important. Anyone questioning him is immediately expelled from fellowship and considered an "enemy of the truth."

What we know is that he, and all other proponents of Armstrongism, are the actual enemies of the truth, but these naive people still entreched in Armstrongism are discouraged to prove all things once they have become members of 'the faithful flock'...

26 Years Ago Herbert Armstrong Died

Among "faithfuls" the date January 26th had quite a bit of significance and importance, namely in the Philadelphia Church of God where church-leader [so-called "Pastor General"] Gerald R Flurry had promised this date would be important when he originally wrote Malachi's Message.

Depending on the moods of loyal Armstrongist members they will pick any news as 'important' signs of the importance of today's date.

So stay tuned to hear what is coming - if you are still a member.

For the rest of us have fun watching how they will get around this... :-)
