Regardless of which deity you believe in, humans were created as free entities. Cults welcome you into their flocks, but once you have accepted their body of doctrines, the door to freedom is often shut. It comes at a huge cost to 'count the cost' in setting yourself free again.
Always a Good Idea To Set Yourself Free!
It is always a good idea to set yourself free again. You regain your right to define right and wrong. That is no longer deposited with a ministry who use THEIR definitions as though they were given by God...
The human mind is a strange unit. Some love the idea that a headquarters team has defined the whole world for them. Nothing left to personal decision-making. Unfortunately, that mindset is misunderstood by many. Journalists often suspect that it is the less intelligent who fall for this. Intelligence has nothing to do with it.
Often the typical cult member is someone who has either been abused (mentally or physically) by surrounding life partners, or a person who has been disappointed with others at some time in their lives. But even those definitions would be missing ONE important ingredient. It is often the atypical element of a cult that attracts attention - and that is why this and other blogs are so CLEAR as to why Armstrongism IS so dangerous.
Moving On Is Important
Moving on takes time, as I wrote in February 2020, and that is important to know, because the process can be quite a challenge. Unlearning errors is often far more difficult than learning what you thought was truth.
Once you begin reading the original scriptures, rather than cult-produced literature, new nuances come to mind, and THAT is a real eye-opener. But before you can come to that point, you need to liberate yourself from all the nonsense that will otherwise poison your ability to take in what the scriptures actually say.
Best of luck in coming out. :-)
